STEVIE B.     (Biography, revised by John “DJ Love” Kyriakoulias — 08/14/1997)

You can always tell the pulse of a nation by the music of its youth. Stevie B does not like what he is hearing. “There is too much negativity and violence.  Music should not be a divisive force; music should uplift us and bring people together.”  From the beginning, Stevie has been bringing people together.

Raised on the Beatles, Earth, Wind & Fire and the Mamas and the Papas, Stevie spent his youth in Miami dreaming of being a singer.  In early bands, he played keyboards as well.  From 1979 – 80, Stevie owned a nightclub called, “Production 1 Disco,” which was located in Tallahasse, Florida.  Unable to land a record deal, he started engineering and producing for other artists as a way to earn money.  He also mowed lawns, customized cars and worked in restaurants, anything to help him achieve his goal.  He even started a snow cone service!

His dedication and determination paid off.  In 1980,  Stevie B started his own recording studio and record label, Midtown Records, on which he released his first rare single,  “Sending Out For Love.”  However, in 1986, he became well-known for his dance smash, “Party Your Body.” The success of that single was soon surpassed by the hits “Spring Love, I Wanna Be The One, In My Eyes and Dreamin’ of Love.” “Because I Love You (The Postman Song)” spent 23 weeks in the Top 40 and topped the charts for four weeks! In addition, Stevie scored three platinum albums: “Party Your Body, In My Eyes and Love and Emotion.”

Stevie continues to perform to adoring crowds worldwide.  His fans, awaiting his next release, flock to shows featuring the endless energy and enthusiasm for which he is famous.  Stevie is admittedly more at home on the stage than anywhere else.  In between performances, Stevie is working on his upcoming album.  Everything he writes is autobiographical.  “I don’t know how to write fiction,” he says.  “My music comes from experience .  Isn’t that what artistry is all about?”

Stevie’s talent is not limited to his own music; he has discovered and produced acts such as Jaya, B.V.S.M.P., Joy Winter, Tolga, Linear, and Korell.  Stevie wrote and produced Jaya’s 1988 Top 40 hit, “If You Leave Me Now.”

In February 1994, Stevie relocated his record company and recording studio to San Jose, California and Emporia Records was born.  Emporia’s first single was the hit, “Paradise” by Korell.  “Make It Last Forever,” Korell’s debut album, was then shortly released, after.  Thereafter, Stevie released his hit single, “Funky Melody,” which became internationally known.

In (fill in the month) 1997, Stevie relocated his record company and recording studio to Los Angeles, California and Dance 2000 Records was born.  Dance 2000’s first single, Stevie’s “Summer Nights” is currently on rotation at radio stations nation-wide. Currently, he is working on other tracks, which will soon be released.  Dance 2000 Records is a new beginning for Stevie B, and expansion of his childhood dreams.  From Miami to New York, to Miami again, to San Jose, to Texas, and to Los Angeles, Stevie never gave up on himself or his dreams.  “We must all follow our own dreams because in the end, that is all we have.”
“May Allah bless us all!”
